Xen is the name of a virtualization environment used on Linux servers. It uses a small customized kernel that starts when the system boots just far enough to hand over control to the first virtual machine called dom0. This special virtual machine is unique in that it has special, direct access to the underlying hardware as well as having a complete view of the Xen network infrastructure. All subsequent virtual machines operated by Xen are known as domU virtual machines.<br />
