 Alteeve Wiki :: Enterprise Linux

Enterprise Linux, or simply EL, describes any Linux distribution based on Red Hat's "Enterprise Linux", itself referred to as RHEL. It is common to see the acronym ELx where x is a version number., ie: EL6, EL7, EL8 or EL9. Perhaps the most popular, free EL distribution was CentOS, until Red Hat took over the project and eventually cancelled it. To replace it, AlmaLinux and Rocky Linux were created.

Red Hat created the CentOS Stream project, which no longer tracks RHEL exactly, but leads it with updates before RHEL, and has a shorter supported life space.
