 AN!Wiki :: Md5sum

The program "md5sum" takes a file as an input for an 128-bit MD5 calculation.

In the context of Anvil! clusters, md5sum hashes can be used to confirm that the file stored in the cluster is byte-for-byte identical to the source the file was originally downloaded from or created. The Anvil! displays the md5sum's hash in the file browser so that you can confirm that the file matches what you expected. It's also used to ensure that the file is copied accurately to all the other machines in the cluster.
